Our headquarter is located in Genthin (Germany, Nr.1) and this is the centre of all operations within Straathof Holding. Intensive animal farming was already established at our locations before we remodelled and expanded them. Schweineproduktion Brenkenhof GmbH, where we breed our own sows, is our only new established venture. Our boar station is in Parchen, and at the other locations, we breed piglets for the market.

To maintain high standards of health and hygiene, our locations are divided into black and white colour-coded areas. The animal pens can only be accessed via a washroom. All visitors and members of staff are required to shower and change into clean clothes before entering white areas. As a further precaution, they are not allowed to have been in contact with other pigs in the previous two days.

The stalls have been designed and equipped in such a way as to minimise emissions by using a multi-level housing system. The exhaust air purification plant at each site ensures a considerable reduction in environmental emissions. Dust and ammonia are cut by up to 80% and pig odours by up to 90%. Our operations comply with the Federal Pollution Control Act and are assessed with regard to their environmental impact. Air cleanliness is maintained using state-of-the-art technology.

It goes without saying that we comply with all regulations and legislation regarding animal welfare and livestock husbandry. In 2009, the existing stalls were extensively remodelled to ensure that those built before August 2006 comply with the regulations on animal welfare and livestock husbandry; transitional arrangements are therefore no longer required.

When planning any reconstruction work or new building at our locations, we focus primarily on animal welfare and the provision of optimum working conditions for our employees.
